What gets in the way

A dataset for a thesis or a market study usually means collecting many public pages in a short window, often from a university network. A campus shares its addresses across many people, so a site that blocks you may be blocking your whole department, and the IT office may hear about it.

Budgets are small and uneven. A monthly plan that lapses between semesters wastes grant money, and a provider with unclear billing makes the methods section hard to write honestly.

Which line fits

Recommended

Datacenter proxies

Datacenter IPs are the cheapest place to start, and many research sources, such as public archives, government portals and forums, accept server traffic. You rent them per IP for a term, choose the country if your data is regional, and know the cost before you begin.

$1.90/IP
$0.89/IP from 500 IPs
Also works

Residential proxies

If one source blocks server ranges, move that part of the collection to residential. It is billed by traffic, and every request shows on the usage log, which helps when you describe how the data was gathered.

$5.50/GB
$1.75/GB from 1000 GB

How to start

  1. Scope the collection first

Write down which sites, which pages and how often. Ethics boards often ask for this anyway, and it tells you how many IPs to rent.

  2. Run a pilot on datacenter

Rent a small number of IPs and collect a sample. If the pages come back clean, that is your setup.

  3. Note your usage

When the collection ends, write down the totals from your usage log. Host, status and size per request make an honest record for your methods section.

There is no shared gateway address to copy from this site. Each service shows its own host, port, username and password on its page in the dashboard.

Using it responsibly

Market and academic research are on our acceptable-use list. Collecting data to build a profile of a private person is harassment under the same policy, research or not. Follow your institution’s ethics rules, keep only the fields you need, and respect each site’s terms.

Questions

Can I pay without a company card?

Yes. Cards and crypto both work, and there is no subscription. The minimum top-up is small and the balance never expires, so leftover funds carry over to the next project.

What happens to money I do not use?

It stays on your balance, which never expires. You can ask for the unused part back, and it goes to the card or wallet you paid from. The refund policy in the legal pages has the details and the time limit.

Can a research group share one account?

An account is for one person or one organisation, so a group working on one project can use a single account. Keep the credentials inside the group, because traffic on them is billed to that account.
